Philosophy aims
The aim of the philosophy course at HL and SL is to engage students in philosophical activity, enabling them to 1. develop an inquiring and intellectually curious way of thinking 2. arguments in a sound and purposeful way
3. examine critically their own experiences and their ideological and cultural perspectives
4. appreciate the diversity of approaches within philosophical thinking
5. apply their philosophical knowledge and skills to the world around them.

Chapter 1 Written Assignment
Use any textbooks, reference works, and original sources. Use proper citations, references, and quotation procedures. Choose 2 religions from three of the four groups below and compare and contrast them concerning the following six topics or issues:
The notion of a deity
The nature of human beings
Divine providence or destiny
The problem of evil
Human suffering
Afterlife
Groups:
I. Early Forms: Egypt, Africa, The Americas, Greece, Rome
II. India: Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism
III. Asia: Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, Shintoism
IV. West ( Middle East): Judaism, Zoroastrianism, Christianity, Islam
NOTE: You should be describing a total of SIX different religions. You should show some familiarity with the characteristics of at least six different religions. Be extensive in your descriptions.
